No need for my Nitroglycerin on this one. The Cedar Cliff Colts scored 1st in the Top of the 1st, but Township once again showed their defensive prowess & quickly ended the inning on a ground out to Bella Stern (2nd). It was then the Streaks turn & they never looked back, racking up 6 runs in the bottom of the 1st. They did it the old fashion way with singles from Ashley Bryant (LF), Sara Hess (C), Ava Stern (1st), Paige Hughes (3rd), & a double by May Castillo (DP).
It quieted down a little after that until Ellie Comerford unleashed a 2 run HR to LF, scoring May Castillo who had singled, stole 2nd & 3rd earlier. The Colts showed some life with a 3 run HR of their own, but the deficit was too much to overcome.
The left side of the defense was busy & lights out with Katie Moore (SS) catching 4 fly balls in the 3rd, 4th, & 2 in the 5th and Paige Hughes (3rd) catching a fly ball in the 1st & fielding 4 grounders in the 1st, 4th, & 5th. The defense also turned another double play in the 6th with Sara Hess (C) making a fantastic catch on a popped-up bunt attempt & throwing out the runner on 1st with a heads-up Bella Stern (2nd) covering for Ava Stern (1st) who was crashing on the bunt.
Freshman, Violet Wagner (RHP) records her 1st Varsity “W” with 6 innings pitched (80 pitches), surrendering 5 runs on 6 hits, 4 BB, & 3 strike-outs.
Township posts their 2nd win of the season with a 15-5 final over Cedar Cliff & their 1st Home win! A good start, but still plenty of work to do.
Your Lady Blue Streaks will be back in action with a good test at home vs. Wilson on Monday, March 24th @ 1615.
