Recap
Double or Nothing
I apologize for my tardiness, it has been a long week, but now I am ready for some much needed R&R…which of course means cutting up GameChanger videos & writing up the highlights of our Lady Blues Streak’s games!
I would love to take credit for the clever title, but it was a John Comerford comment after Sara Hess (DP) hit her 6th double of the season. “Maquina Doble” would hit #7 later in the game. I don’t know if or what the school record for doubles in a season is, but I have to think there is a chance for Sara Hess (DP) to beat it!
So, settle in, this was a big win for Township, fraught with highlights, so the video may get a little long.
The score may not show it, but Cedar Crest was no push-over. They knew how to work their bats & at the end of the 1st inning, they had the lead.
The top of the 2nd though, our Streaks reached into their tool boxes, grabbed their jacks & tire irons, and went to work on that bus like they were a NASCAR pit crew! Ellie Comerford (3rd) started off the scoring with an RBI Double, scoring Paige Hughes (C) who had tripled earlier. Sara “Maquina Doble” Hess (DP) did what she has done so many times before this season & blasted a double to LF scoring Bella Stern (2nd) & Katie Moore (LF), both of whom had walked earlier. Ava Stern (1st) wanted to “play” too smacking a triple to LF scoring Sara Hess (DP) & Ashley Bryant (CF), who had hit into a fielder’s choice earlier. May Castillo (SS) wasn’t quite ready to go back into the field without another and scored Ava Stern (1st) on a sacrifice fly. The Inning ended with the score 7-1. Our Lady Streaks could have taken a nap at this point…foreshadowing…they had already put the game out of reach, but they were not done yet. Cedar Crest had their share of doubles and did score another run in the bottom of the 2nd (7-2).
Township increased their lead in the top of the 3rd with an Ashley Bryant (CF) hard hit grounder to CF with 2 outs that scored Katie Moore (LF) who had walked 2 batters before. Maquina Doble did it again with #7 on the season to LF scoring Ashley Bryant (CF) before the inning was over (9-2).
The top of the 4th Township continued to pour it on, starting with a sacrifice fly by Sofia Panagopoulos (RF) scoring Paige Hughes (C) who had singled to lead-off the inning. This at bat Sara Hess (DP) could only manage an RBI single scoring Ellie Comerford (3rd) after she had walked earlier. Next Ava Stern (1st), with bases loaded, cleared them all with a double of her own to a very busy LF scoring Sara Hess (DP), Natalie Brownell (LF), & Ashley Bryant (CF) before the inning ended, 14-2.
The 5th and what would eventually be the final inning, the Lady Streaks double iced the cake…at this point I think it was more icing than cake, so I am not sure you could still call it a cake. Sofia Panagopoulos (RF) hit another sacrifice fly to score Mya Zeigler (I am not even sure who was in for what position, there were so many line-up changes), who had been hit by a pitch…ouch…to lead-off. Natallie Brownell (LF) reached 2nd on an error scoring Katie Moore (2nd) & Natalie Messina. Violet Wagner (P) grounded out to Short scoring Natalie Brownell (LF). Ava Stern (1st) Singled on a ball a grounder smoked to the busy LF, scoring Ashley Bryant (CF) who had singled on a fly ball to LF. Mya Zeigler…yup, she got up again…singled on a hard grounder ripped to short scoring Ava Stern (1st). Natalie Messina scored May Castillo (SS) on a hard ground ball (ruled as an error) to short, before ending their half of the inning.
I have to hand it to Cedar Crest, they never gave up & scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th, but it was too much & our Blue Streaks enjoyed the bus ride home with a 21-5 victory.
Since I am late with this, Dallastown was next, but you will have to read the next one to find out how that went & where we will be playing next!
