Manheim Township at J.P. McCaskey

Recap

2 Sophomores & a bunch of Errors

That pretty much sums up the game.  Thankfully the Errors were made by the Red Tornadoes.

Through the 1st inning I was tapping the Pepto a little heavy.  Lead-off Bella Stern (2nd) smacked a single to the gap just over the 2nd baseman’s outstretched glove.  McCaskey then sat our next 3 batters.  The Tornadoes lead-off homered to LF leaving us all to wondering if their new coach was having an immediate impact!  Freshman Violet Wagner (P) (aka Frosty) reset & while her statistics may not show it, she was unfazed and cold as ice surrendering only 3 hits through 5 innings.

Then the Lady Streaks went to work, scoring at least 3 runs in the next 4 innings.  Sophomores lead the charge with Natalie Brownell (DP) going 3 for 4 at the plate with a double & 3 RBIs and Sofia Panagopoulos (RF) also 3 for 4 with a triple & 4 RBIs in the Blue Streak’s dominant 16-3 victory over McCaskey.

In the Top of the 2nd May Castillo (SS) got the party started scoring on a Natalie Brownell (DP) double just shy of the fence in CF.  Natalie Brownell (DP) scored on a hit by Ellie Comerford (CF) ruled as one of the Tornadoes many Errors.  Sofia Panagopoulos (RF) singled on a nice bunt that froze the infield scoring Paige Hughes (3rd) who had walked earlier in the inning.  Bella Stern (2nd) who had an ESPN Top 10 diving catch for an out in the bottom of the 1st, hit a sacrifice fly to CF scoring Ellie Comerford (CF).  At this point Game Changer got a little wonky and since I am an old man, my memory is a little fuzzy or it could have been the Pepto I was hitting pretty hard in the 1st inning, but sufficed to say, we scored another run before the inning ended in a double play.  If I was a professional, I would say I should probably take notes, but I never want to miss a moment of our Blue Streaks play!

The Top of the 3rd the scoring resumed with Ava Stern (1st) scoring on a Natalie Brownell (DP) single to SS.  Sofia Panagopoulos (RF) then collected 2 of her 4 RBIs on a triple blasted to RF scoring Natalie Brownell (DP) & Paige Hughes (3rd) before the inning ended with Township holding a 7-1 lead.

The 4th was more score-fest with Sara Hess (C) finding some green (and almost the fence) on a solid hit to deep, deep, deep CF for a double, advancing Ashley Bryant (LF) who had reached base on an error, to 3rd.  Ashley Bryant (LF) then stole home during Ava Stern (1st)’s at bat before she walked.  May Castillo (SS) ripped a shot to SS scoring Sara Hess (C) & Ava Stern (1st) before the inning ended.

This is beginning to feel very repetitive…in a good way, but I may be running low on adjectives.

The 5th & final inning, Township iced the cake…again…to the point that I may use it as an excuse for any rise in my A1C at my next doctor’s appointment.  Sofia Panagopoulos (RF) singled on a fly ball to CF, stole 2nd, & advanced to 3rd on a Bella Stern (2nd) grounder single to SS, before scoring on a pass ball.  May Castillo (SS) hit a grounder to 3rd and through a cacophony of errors reached 2nd & scored Sara Hess (C) & Katie Moore (Pinch Runner), who had entered the game earlier when Ashley Bryant (LF) was struck by a pitch hard enough that I felt it.  May Castillo (SS) then scored on a Natalie Brownell (DP) single to RF.  Mya Zeigler (Pinch Hitter) knocked down a nice hit to 3rd, ruled as an error, scoring Natalie Brownell (DP) before the inning ended.

McCaskey, never giving up, did score in the bottom of the 5th, but alas it was not enough & our Lady Streaks leave Lancaster City with a 16-3 final victory.

The game was much more exciting than my “lather, wash, rinse, repeat” commentary made it sound.

Township will have much bigger challenge heading over to Solanco for a non-league game against the Lady Golden Mules…if Mother Nature approves.  With 2 wins already notched on their belts, the Blue Streaks should not be lacking in confidence for this outing.

This is the game re-scheduled from last week.  1st Pitch is a little earlier than usual, @ 3:45pm, in hopes of beating the weather.  Keep your eyes posted to our social media for updates.  If the weather holds though, it is a good 45 minute drive to Solanco, so leave extra early so as not to miss a moment of our Blue Streaks play!
