Coffee

We played like coffee tonight.  I am talking about real coffee, black coffee, because once you put all those over sweetened, flavored, milk/cream/non-dairy crap in it, can you really call it coffee?  Starbucks has a complete business plan on making you pay $20 for adding a bunch a stuff to a beverage that was already perfect!  I love coffee…no…wait…what was I talking about?  This isn’t a coffee blog…or a place for me to vent about coffee perfection.

If you know me…or spend enough time, well, near me…I am loud & I don’t have a filter…you would know I love analogies.  I think it was the SAT prep they did 30 years ago.  You might also know that my analogies sometimes take me off the track to the point I forgot what I was originally talking about, which was what again?

OK, so we played like coffee.

We came out hot!  Extra hot!  Like McDonald’s coffee lawsuit hot.  In the Top of the 1st, we hit.  Sara “Maquina Doble” Hess (C) did her thing in the 3 spot & doubled to CF, scoring Bella Stern (2nd) who lead off the inning with a single on a grounder to 3rd, she is fast.  And that is number 9 on the season for Ms. Doble, for anyone keeping score at home.  “Big Play” May Castillo (SS) then ripped a 2 RBI line drive single to LF, scoring Sara Hess (C) & Ashley Bryant (1st) who had singled on a laser to CF from the 2 spot.  The inning ended, but things looked pretty good after a half inning.  Yes, Warwick was on an 8-game winning spree, but we had blanked them a few weeks ago at home, so spirits were high.

Then out coffee cooled.  When we went back to it, it was cold, but not cold enough to be called Iced-Coffee.  Now that you can add that crap to & I will pay Starbuck’s exorbitant $Prices because it is delicious.  Where was I?  I need my wife to keep me on track,…though, I am a hard one to wrangle.  Warwick slowly chipped away with a run of their own in the bottom of the 1st and 2 in the bottom of the 2nd to tie things up.

We looked at the coffee.  We knew it was cold.  We wanted to drink it, but knew it wasn’t the same.  Then Warwick hit a solo HR for the lead in the bottom of the 5th & added 3 run more in the bottom of the 6th, 3-6.

Now we really wanted that coffee.  The microwave was all the way over there & “nuked” coffee is never the same but we wanted to drink it.  And too our credit…

  1. We have proven we are never out of a game.
  2. Our bats seem to get hot late in the game (though I believe our ladies all own Pepto Stock)

The “nuked” coffee was surprisingly good, which was a 2 run HR, as Mr. Aiello would say, courtesy of #12, Ava Stern (P) with a blast over the RF fence 10 miles away, which also scored Sara Hess (C) who had singled right before Ava Stern (P).  That microwaved coffee was just not the same though & our Lady Streaks fell just short, 5-6.

Losing sucks.  It would be easy to point out some terrible calls by the umpires or make some other excuses, but the truth is, it was a great game.  Our Ladies fought tooth and nail right down to the wire.  They never let down & they never gave up.  Yeah, it still sucks because we lost, but our Blue Streaks should hold their head’s high.  Warwick is a good team & we were never out of it.  A few plays or a few calls (I say a few, but probably any one of numerous goes our way…Sofia Panagopoulos (Pinch Runner) was safe, yes the throw was on time, but she beat the tag, open your eyes Ump!…sorry, I am not bitter…and that was just one of many) and we would have had to get out our brooms!  You ladies fought well, you played as a team, and you played your little hearts out.  And not that you need it from me, but I am proud of all of you.

This battle is over, we lost, but he war rages on & we are never out of it.  You play every game like that one & only good things will come from it.  So grab your shovels and fill that fire box up because this train is still on the track and we have another stop tomorrow with visiting South Western…South who?  where is that school from?  Anyway, they will be visiting us.  First pitch is at 4:15pm on the Manheim Township Varsity Softball Diamond.  I will see you all there.

Sorry the highlight video was short tonight, but these Senior Profiles are quite time consuming.  I am sure the kids could pump these out in 5 minutes, but I still have 4 more to chisel.
