Manheim Township @ Central York

Recap

OK, well 1st of all thank you ladies, your win has kept me in business, meaning my wife doesn’t ask me to do the dishes, so keep winning…preferably until next Spring when we start again.

Oh, sorry, spoiler alert…we won.

HOLY [insert expletive of choice here] WE WON.

I mean, we won…of course we won, never a doubt.

We were the #13 seed…we beat the #4 seed…let that sink in for a minute…

I am thoroughly convinced these ladies own stock in Pepto…This season I have run through the bottle in my bag & 2 in the car.  I was out of it for this game and boy did I need it.

I could go on and on about the lights out defense (it was.  after the 1st inning Central York didn’t score a run until the 6th.  There were many 1,2,3 innings, Every Township player that touched the ball had 1.000% FPT…meaning…O Errors…Mr. Hughes had 2 on foul balls, but no one saw it), but I digress…and even though everyone knows, DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS, no one like a defensive struggle, so lets skip to the exciting stuff.

We find ourselves, once again, in the 7th Inning.  Maybe we should change the name of the team to the Manheim Township Procrastinators because we don’t seem to start rolling until the 6th or 7th inning.  Thankfully, when we do roll, it’s like me, a fat Dad down a steep hill.

So, we like to make it interesting.  Cut to, top of the 7th.  Central York: 2 / Us: 0.  Sophomore Natalie Brownell (DP), in the #6 spot steps up to the plate, hits the 1st pitch, a grounder to 3rd.  The 3rd baseman (3rd basewoman?  I am too old to know which is politically correct, you figure it out) takes a stab at it, I think missed, but the Short Stop does make a great play on the ball to keep it in front of her, but doesn’t field it cleanly and we have one on base, with no outs.  The hope meter pops up a bit. 2 batters later

Katie Moore (Pinch Hitter) steps up to the plate, with an 0-2 count smacks a line drive to CF, advancing Sofia Panagopoulos (LF) who was pinch running for Natalie Brownell (DP), to 3rd base.  Now we get to the top of the line up, the score has still not changed, there are 2 outs, and I have no fingernails left.  Paige Hughes (3rd) steps in to box and with a 3-2 count takes a ball & walks.  Holy Crow, bases are loaded, 2 outs, and bases loaded.  Hope is high, but my watch is beeping at me because so are stress levels, I should have stopped at CVS for more Pepto.  Ashley Bryant (1st) steps up to the plate looking cool as a cucumber (I am showing my age with that colloquialism).  Freshman Olivia Albrecht (Pinch Runner) has stepped in for Paige Hughes as a pinch runner, so we have arguably 3 of our fastest on all the bases.  With the organ playing, Ashley Bryant (1st) knocks one into CF for a single and in a blur of Blue & White Sofia Panagopoulos (LF), Katie Moore (Pinch Hitter), & Olivia Albrecht (Pinch Runner) score.  Some more stuff happens after that, but the inning ends Central York: 2 / Us: 3.  We are 3 outs away from a win.

You already know how this story ends, I ruined it for you in the 1st sentence.  Central York put up a valiant fight.  They were a good team, but their season ended…and we move on.

The Lady Blue Streaks advance.  They will play Chambersburg, the #5 seed, so this should be eazy-peezy, yikes.  Chambersburg has been historically tough.  We will need this one though to advance to the State Tournament and to keep my pristine hands dish water safe

You Got This Ladies.

See you all Thursday, May 22nd in Chambersburg.
